(4 wounded) Gunskilltoo Jan 29th; Thought she heard a noise, slipped and shot herself

Burglary led to accidental shooting

POCATELLO, ID  (1-28-16) — An accidental shooting on Wednesday was the result of a woman's response to a home burglary, according to her husband Randy Schiffman.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the Schiffman home at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday after Megan Schiffman received a minor gunshot wound to her leg. Randy said his wife was wounded while investigating noises coming from downstairs in the family home. She was upstairs where her two girls slept while her son was downstairs sleeping in his bedroom. The children are ages 8 months to 5 years.

“She heard some noises and thought there were people in the house,” Randy said.

Randy said he was at work, and his family was home alone. Megan picked up a 9mm Smith & Wesson semi-automatic that belongs to her husband and went downstairs to investigate.

“She slipped on the stairs and the gun discharged,” Randy said.

The husband said the gunshot apparently caused the people who entered the house to flee. Randy said the couple's children slept through the entire episode.
