Answering call in NLR, firefighter shot, killed
North Little Rock, AR (1-23-16) - A central Arkansas firefighter was shot to death Friday morning after responding to a call for help at a North Little Rock residence.
Ronald Jason Adams, 20, of the East Pulaski Volunteer Fire Department responded shortly after 5 a.m. to a home at 211 Dortch Loop, off Faulkner Lake Road, according to the Pulaski County sheriff's office. A person at the residence was reported to be having a seizure.
The sheriff's office said that minutes after Adams was dispatched, it received a call that a firefighter been shot at the residence.
Adams was taken from the home to Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock, where he was pronounced dead.
The sheriff's office arrested the homeowner, Mark Eugene Pruitt, later Friday. He was charged with manslaughter.
A handcuffed Pruitt, 47, spoke briefly to reporters while being transported from the sheriff's office to the Pulaski County jail.
"Someone come in the home," he said.
When asked if that person identified himself or was wearing a uniform, Pruitt said no.
Pulaski County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Chris Ameling said Pruitt was charged after he and his wife, Tonja, provided statements to investigators. Ameling also said investigators found physical evidence that led to the charge. He declined to elaborate.
Adams, who went by his middle name, Jason, lived in North Little Rock and responded to the call at the home because he was nearby, according to Ameling.
"Volunteer fire department members like that, sometimes they do respond in just regular, plainclothes -- their bluejeans, their T-shirt. Due to the time of morning, a lot of times they've got pagers on. And when that pager goes off, they respond in whatever they're wearing at the time," Ameling said.
The sheriff's office did not release further details in the case.

2 home invasion suspects arrested, 2 on the run, friend accidentally shot
2 suspects remain at large
SEABROOK, Texas (1-23-16) - Bryan Johnson said it was a normal Friday night with five friends and their kids at his home in Seabrook.
While inside with his home surveillance camera playing on his TV screen, Johnson said he saw a terrifying scene start to unfold in real time. Three armed men crawled under his garage door and seconds later.
"One of the males with a shot gun opened the side garage door that steps into my house and he's asking my name," Johnson said. "They only knew my name because my friends told them that I was inside."
Johnson lives in a neighborhood near the Kemah Boardwalk and wasn't expecting the intruders, but took action.
"I was screaming at him 'drop the gun' and then he shut the door. I put three rounds through the door, he crawled out the garage door and I went out the front and opened a few more rounds at them," Johnson said.
Seabrook police said that's about the time the intruder's driver took off, and the three men ran away.
Officers found and arrested two of the suspects, Noah Simpson from Deer Park, and Tyler Edge from LaPorte. Both suspects were charged with aggravated robbery.
The other two suspects are still at large.
When it was over, Johnson realized he accidentally shot one of his friends, Raymond Hearne. Hearne was taken to Clear Lake Regional Hospital.
"He was complaining he couldn't feel his legs, he was moving them when the medic was asking. He was moving them, but a little worried because he couldn't feel them," Johnson said.
All of the other adults and children were unharmed.
