OKLAHOMA CITY - (11-10-15)  A 14-year-old Woodward girl remains in critical condition, after catching the brunt of a shotgun blast Saturday night.
According to her mother, Kinzie Eisenbise was with a handful of friends at a friend’s house, when the shotgun went off.

Kinzie was struck in the right collarbone, and it caused critical injuries. Kinzie is being treated at The Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Her mother Christy said she got an encouraging sign from her daughter early Tuesday morning.

“I actually went to check on her. And I didn’t expect her to have her eyes open and look at me and squeeze my hand, and worded to me she loved me too,” she said.

A "Support Kinzie” GoFundMe page has been established in the girl’s name.

News 9 called Woodward police early Tuesday afternoon for any update in their investigation, but have not heard back.

Police: No plans to charge father in toddler’s accidental shooting death

COBB COUNTY, Ga.  (10-29-15)  — Police say they do not expect to file charges against the father of a 2-year-old who died after grabbing a handgun and shooting himself.
The father, a former Marine, was home with his sons, ages 4 and 2, Tuesday night.
Acworth police say the youngest found a Glock handgun in a rear bedroom of the home and somehow it went off, striking the toddler in the head.
They say the shooting appears to be accidental, but it is still unclear how the weapon went off. Officers say at some point the firearm was in a holster.
Police did not plan on filing charges against the father. The mother was not home at the time. Police say after an extensive investigation they will send their findings to the district attorney or solicitor to see if they believed charges were warranted.
Many people stopped by the home in the Marina Park subdivision Wednesday and dropped off tokens in memory of the young boy.
“It’s just devastating. I feel so bad for all of them,” one neighbor said.
Police say it should be a tragic lesson to others and neighbors agree.
“It’s sad that this happens too often. It just needs to be known to keep your guns and weapons safe because it does happen in a blink of an eye just like that,” one neighbor said.
“Just put them up higher where the kids can’t get them. This was an accident. We’re not looking for this guy to go to prison or anything like that. It was really an accident.”

Nebraska hunter accidentally shot

Ft. Calhoun Neb. (11-10-15)   What started off as a seemingly harmless target practice turned dangerous.

Monday afternoon a hunter was walking to his deer stand near Ft. Calhoun when he heard gun shots.

Moments later, he was hit, shot by another hunter in the field sighting his gun a quarter to a half mile away.

"Make certain you know what lies beyond your target, where your target is, and what lies beyond your target should you miss your target," Jeff Rawlinson, Nebraska Game and Parks.

The problem on Monday was there was no safety device beyond that target.

One of the most important safety tips when sighting a rifle is to make sure you have an adequate backstop.

With no backstop officials say the bullet went past the target and hit the man’s leg.

"Make sure they are aware of their backstop and what's beyond their backstop and make sure you are doing it in a safe time of day,” Lt. Walter Groves, Washington Co. Sheriff’s Office.”

The hunter was taking to CHI Health Creighton University in serious condition, he is expected to be alright.

This Saturday kicks off one of the largest firearm hunting seasons of the year, deer firearm.

While sighting safety is important, Nebraska hunting laws require more. During any firearm season hunters must wear blaze orange on their head, chest, and back.

"So that other hunters know that hey I am a hunter too and it just helps us be a little safer in the field," Rawlinson said.

Hunting education is required for ages 12 through 29 using firearms. Nebraska Game and Parks offer those hunting classes, and even new online certification for ages 16 and older.
