Accidental shooting in Arkwright

ARKWRIGHT,  NY- (11-22-15)  State Police in Fredonia responded to a call early Saturday when one hunter reportedly shot another near Meadow Road.

At approximately 8:20 a.m., Troopers arrived on the scene to find Joseph McAndrews, 33, of Buffalo severely injured with a 12-gauge slug wound to his left leg.

Police reports state a 17-year-old hunter took a shot at a doe with a 12-gauge shotgun when the slug missed the deer and allegedly struck McAndrews in the leg. It is currently unknown if the two hunters were hunting the area together or if they happened to be in the same place coincidentally.

McAndrews was airlifted to Erie County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Fredonia-based Troopers stated they weren't able to comment on the incident Saturday evening.

The investigation is ongoing.

The area is no stranger to hunting-related accidents. Marc Garrison of West Seneca was found at the Earl Cardot trailhead in Arkwright fatally wounded by a self-inflicted gun shot on Nov. 28, 2010, a school bus was shot in Randolph on Nov. 22, 2011 and Jeffrey Roberts of Sheridan was fatally shot on Dec. 3, 2011 when hunting in Stockton, to name a few.

TEEN IN VERY CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER BEING SHOT IN ATASCOCITA

Saturday, November 21, 2015 11:37PM
ATASCOCITA, TX (KTRK) -- A 16-year-old Astascocita teenager is said to be on life support late Saturday night, after he was shot Saturday afternoon. Another teenager, also 16, ran from the house after the shooting. He was questioned and released by homicide investigators after he was located.

The case is being turned over to the District Attorney's office for review. Investigators recovered the weapon from the teenager. It's believed to have been stolen.

As many as a half dozen teenagers were in the house when the shooting happened. They were questioned and released as well.

The victim was shot in the head, and was flown by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital. We're told he was put on life support, because the family may be considering organ donation.

The bullet that was fired, according to neighbors, went through the wall of the house and broke a window in a house next door. That's where the bullet was recovered.

A Sheriff's homicide investigator says there's evidence to suggest the teenagers had been smoking pot before the shooting.
