Police: Holmes Rd. shooting of teen was accidental  


MEMPHIS, Tenn. (11-1-15) — Police believe the Saturday shooting in the 1600 block of Holmes Road, which injured two teens, was accidental.

The 15-year-old victim of that shooting told police he was with his 16-year-old friend at the time. He said the friend had his hands in his pockets, and the gun “just went off,” shooting him in the foot and the 16-year-old in the hand.

The 15-year-old was transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in noncritical condition, and the 16-year-old fled the scene on foot, police said.

While police were looking for the suspect, they received another call about a shooting. When they responded to the 5400 block of Lochnivar Road, they found the suspect suffering from a gunshot wound to his hand. He was also transported to Le Bonheur in noncritical condition.

The suspect admitted to police he had a gun, but he said he gave it to another friend.

The suspect was issued a juvenile summons for unlawful possession of a weapon.

Man accidentally shot when customer's gun falls to floor while at Sanford Cracker Barrel

Customer's gun fell out of holster

SANFORD, Fla. (11-1-15) A customer's gun fell to the floor, accidentally shooting a man while inside the Cracker Barrel restaurant in Sanford Sunday morning.

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office said after interviewing witnesses at the scene, deputies determined that a customer was on his way to the register to pay for his meal when his legally carried firearm fell from his holster onto the floor, discharging one round, which struck a male patron in the lower leg.

The shooting was determined to be accidental and no charges are expected to be filed.

The man who was shot was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Many injured in accidental shooting in Troy

TROY, Vt  - (11-1-15)  State police say a man is recovering from a leg injury after an accidental shooting in Troy.

They say Michael Collins and Nicholas Blake of Troy were out target shooting when they headed indoors to clean their guns before a party. They say Blake's gun accidentally went off, hitting Collins in the leg.

He's expected to recover.

NEW INFO: 51-year-old man accidentally shot in Greenville on Halloween night 


Police say they believe a man accidentally shot himself on Halloween night.

Police responded to the Summerfield Gardens apartments, off of Peed Drive & Summer Place, around 8:00 p.m.

Greenville police say a 51-year-old man was shot in the leg and transported to Vidant Medical Center. His injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.

At this point in the investigation, officers believe this was an unintentional, self-inflicted shooting.

Staten Island man shoots son by accident with gun the boy found: cops 


(11-1-15)  A Staten Island man was arrested after accidentally shooting his 13-year-old son when the boy returned home with a handgun he found, police said on Sunday.

The boy brought a silver Bryco 9-mm pistol back home to show his father after spotting it near their Covington Circle home along the heavily wooded W. Castor Place in Woodrow Friday night, authorities said.

When his father, Vitaley Velkin, 38, grabbed the gun it fired, hitting his son in the leg around 10:45 p.m., according to officials.

The teen was taken to Staten Island University Hospital North, where he was listed in stable condition.

Velkin was arrested and charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment, police said.

No injuries after gun fired on accident 

Nacogdoches, TX (11-1-15)  Incident report, 3400 block of East Main Street. A man was reportedly loading his firearm when he had a “negligent discharge” of the weapon in his apartment. The round went through three walls before stopping in the ceiling. There were no injuries
