Coroner: 12-year-old boy dead in what police say was accidental shooting
By JULIA SCHEIB

(11-15-15) The York County Coroner's Office was called to York Hospital after a 12-year-old boy died this morning, York County Coroner Pam Gay said.

The boy was shot in his family's York City home, York City Police Sergeant William Wentz said.

Emergency personnel responded to a call at about 7:20 a.m., according to a York County 911 official.

At the family's home in the 200 block of Richland Avenue, they found the wounded boy and a second injured person, a man Wentz said was related to the boy. The man had lacerations to his hand that he told police he'd gotten from punching the wall, Wentz said.

Shortly after police and emergency workers arrived on the scene, the man sat on the porch cradling his hand and crying inconsolably while family members and medical personnel tended to him, his white shirt spattered with blood.

A woman's cries were audible from inside the house; the boy was carried on a stretcher to an ambulance.

"It was accidental — that's how it was relayed to us," Wentz said.

Check back later for more information.

Colorado Police Officer Lied About Shooting

(11-14-15)   A police officer Commerce City, Colorado has been arrested for lying about his own shooting.

Officials announced Friday night that Officer Kevin Lord was charged with attempting to influence a public official and false reporting, according to KMGH-TV.

The department had previously released a sketch of a suspect and offered a $20,000 reward for the arrest of the person responsible for shooting Lord in the chest during a traffic stop on Nov. 8.

District Attorney Dave Young said the investigation went into a different direction Thursday night after members of the Critical Incident Team investigated the incident.

"This is not a reflection of the Commerce City Police Department, nor is it a reflection of police officers who serve and protect the public on a daily basis," he said during a press conference.

Commerce City Police Chief Troy Smith said he is disappointed by the turn of events the case took.

"Yesterday I stood here and told you that no stone would be left unturned in this investigation, and that's exactly what has occurred," he said. "We have pursued the truth and the truth has led us to this place."

Lord will be transferred to the Adams County Detention Facility once he is booked.
