Man accidentally shot himself in leg while cleaning gun in Summit Township
SUMMIT TWP., MI – (11-15-15) A man accidentally shot himself in the leg while cleaning his gun Saturday on Horton Road in Summit Township, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office reported.
The man took himself to Allegiance Health and the hospital notified authorities before 6 p.m. Nov. 14, Sgt. Lee Rose said. Rose said the shooting actually took place several hours earlier.
He was hit in his knee; his injuries were not considered major or life-threatening.

Homer man accidentally shot in upper torso when he dropped shotgun
CLARENDON TWP., MI – (11-15-15) A 21-year-old Homer man was accidentally shot in the upper torso area Sunday morning on W Drive South, southwest of Homer.
West Michigan AirCare took the man to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to a statement from the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.
The man had been hunting in the 22000 block of W Drive South and while attempting to remove his jacket, he dropped his semi-automatic shotgun on the ground. This caused the weapon to discharge a slug into his upper torso area, according to the statement.
Emergency personnel were called to the area at 10:10 a.m. Nov. 15.
Marshall Area Ambulance and the Homer Fire Department were on scene to assist.
Police have classified the shooting as accidental.
