Bristol man charged after accidentally shooting himself

Bristol,   (2-22-16)  – A local man who said he shot himself accidentally faces three charges.
Keith Reome, 48, of 16 Rossi Drive, appeared in Bristol Superior Court on Monday on charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment.
Police said Reome is a convicted felon and is barred from having any guns.
According to the arrest warrant, an officer was called to Bristol Hospital around 2 p.m. on Feb. 5, as Reome was being treated for a gunshot wound to his ankle.
Reome, the warrant said, told police he accidentally shot himself about 13 hours earlier, in his driveway. Having gone outside for a cigarette, he said he was reaching into his pocket when he mistakenly pulled the gun’s trigger. He told police he waited before going to the hospital because he does not drive and did not want to call an ambulance and “create a scene,” the warrant said.
Police later seized a .32 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun and some ammunition from Reome’s home.
Reome was arrested six days later and released on a $5,000 non-surety bond.
In court on Monday, officials said he has previous convictions for second-degree assault with a motor vehicle and driving under the influence.
Jeffrey Lee, the prosecutor, asked during the hearing that the bond be increased, saying what happened was very dangerous and the bullet very easily could have gone “through someone’s bedroom and hit a 2-year-old.”
Kevin Creed, Reome’s lawyer, requested that the bond remain the same, adding that his client has never had an issue with coming to court. He also said Reome wants to put this matter behind him.
The only way to do that, Lee countered, was to plead guilty and serve a two-year minimum mandatory sentence.
Reome opted to plead not guilty.
His bond was raised to $50,000 non-surety, meaning he is still free, but the bond could be imposed if he doesn’t show up in court. The case was continued to April 11.

Hulbert was not at the residence when police arrived but had been taken to the Houlton Regional Hospital by a private vehicle. He then was taken by ambulance to the airport in Presque Isle and flown to the Bangor hospital.

McKenna said the bullet travelled through Hulbert’s hand, into his leg near the knee, and out the opposite side of the leg into his calf.

Monroe woman sues neighbor who shot her as she walked to mailbox

Monroe, Or   (2-23-16)   A Monroe business owner who pleaded guilty last year to accidentally shooting a neighbor now faces a $2.55 million lawsuit filed by the victim in Lane County Circuit Court.

Gale Fogelstrom’s suit against Jeffrey Fields lists the serious injuries she sustained when multiple bullets struck her as she walked to her mailbox on the afternoon of April 6, 2014.

Fogelstrom underwent a number of surgeries and other procedures after suffering a lacerated spleen that required removal, a collapsed lung and other injuries, the lawsuit asserts.

Fields, 59, told Benton County sheriff’s deputies after the shooting that he and another person had been target practicing on his property, officials said at the time.

He was later arrested and charged in the incident. He pleaded guilty last May to misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree assault and recklessly endangering another person, and is now serving a three-year probation term.

Fields must complete 80 hours of community service and is banned from shooting guns in Benton County while he is on probation, according to court records.

A call made Monday to a phone number listed in court documents as being Fields’ went straight to voice message, which said the mailbox was full.

Fogelstrom’s lawsuit states that she was walking to her mailbox on Reese Creek Road, a few miles northwest of Monroe, when multiple stray bullets struck her in the abdomen and pelvis.

Fields stopped shooting after Fogelstrom screamed for help but did not come to her aid, the suit asserts.

Fogelstrom was 60 at the time.

The lawsuit, filed last week, seeks more than $2.3 million in noneconomic damages for her injuries, disfigurement, pain, suffering, discomfort and inconvenience; and $250,000 for medical expenses.

Fogelstrom is represented by Zemper Eiva Law in Eugene.

Named as defendants in the suit are Fields and his two businesses, Dawson Timber Services and Fields Enterprises.

  1. The name of your blog is very true. You people can also take help from the training centers to know about the firearms in detail and about handling them but the fact is that guns are mere safety device and when you don't use them well they simply kill most of the times since handled improperly. You people can checkout the MA Gun License as they need legal permission to be carried as most of the times ignorance and carelessness has turned fatal.
