West Delray Beach, Fl      (2-4-16)    A 16-year-old boy was accidentally shot and killed by a friend after they got their hands on a gun while the friend's parents weren't home, according to a lawyer representing the dead boy's family.

James Cartigiano was pronounced dead Jan. 27 after having been shot five days earlier in the 8000 block of Sawpine Drive in West Delray Beach.

Attorney Gary Lesser said Cartigiano and another boy were at the friend's house for a sleepover. While there, the friend who lived at the house got hold of a loaded gun and shot Cartigiano in the head.

Cartigiano was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced brain dead a few days later.

The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office said it is investigating the shooting as a homicide. No charges have been filed.

The Sheriff's Office has not identified anyone involved besides Cartigiano.

Lesser said Cartigiano was a junior, but did not say which high school he attended. He said the teen loved to skateboard and was looking forward to applying to college.

Kingsport man arrested in accidental shooting of girlfriend's son

Kingsport, Tn  (2-4-16)  — The discovery of drugs within a home has led to a houseguest being shot in the chest, according to police, as the resident inadvertently fired a round while kicking him out.

The incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday at 1326 Frank St. A Kingsport Police Department incident report states that multiple officers and EMS personnel responded to the scene, with the 33-year-old victim transported to Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. As of Thursday morning, he remained hospitalized in stable condition.

Clifford Parker, 54, told investigators that he had been letting the man stay at his residence. Also present at the time of the shooting was the victim’s mother, who is identified as Parker’s girlfriend.

According to KPD Public Information Officer Tom Patton, Parker discovered a small amount of drugs and drug paraphernalia. After tracing the items back to his girlfriend’s son, Parker reportedly demanded the man pack his belongings and leave.

During the ensuing altercation, Parker retrieved a handgun and was allegedly pointing it at the other man in an attempt to expedite his departure. One round was fired, according to police, but investigators believe the shooting was unintentional.

Immediately following the incident, both Parker and his girlfriend were transported to the police department for further questioning. Parker was ultimately charged with reckless aggravated assault and booked into the city jail, then later released on $5,000 bond.

An investigation into the drugs discovered in Parker’s home is continuing with charges pending. Patton says a “significant” amount of cash was also seized from the residence. Police suspect the money is proceeds from drug transactions.

Man accidentally shoots himself on I-40

Golden Valley, Az  (2-4-16)  - A Las Vegas man didn't want to admit he accidentally shot himself in the leg while driving on Interstate 40 Jan. 23, but the evidence told the story he didn't want heard.

An Arizona Highway Patrol trooper conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 40 near milepost 42 at about 11 p.m. to find Travis Neil Cook, 33, bleeding from a gunshot wound in his right calf. A .357 magnum revolver and a spent casing were next to the driver's seat.

Cook was the lone occupant of the vehicle. Initially, according to Mohave County Sheriff's spokeswoman Trish Carter, Cook denied shooting himself.

"Evidence at the scene shows otherwise," said Carter.

Paramedics with River Medical responded and took Cook to Kingman Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
