13-year-old Elkhart boy shot in face in Roseland hotel listed in 'stable' condition

The 13-year-old Elkhart boy was hospitalized with minor injuries in what appears to be an accidental shooting, our news partners at ABC57 report

ROSELAND, In. —(12-21-15)   A 13-year-old Elkhart boy sustained minor injuries after being shot in the face early Sunday in a St. Joseph County hotel room.

The incident happened at about 6:45 a.m. at the Quality Inn on South Dixie Way in Roseland, according to our news partners at ABC57. The hotel is near the University of Notre Dame and St. Mary’s College campuses.

Authorities told ABC57 that about 10 teenagers ranging from ages 13 to 19 were in the hotel room when a handgun was apparently accidentally discharged. The victim was in stable condition after suffering superficial injuries to the face.

St. Joseph County Police are trying to determine who rented the room to the teens and what they were doing in the hotel. The biggest hurdle in the investigation, ABC57 said, is that because the witnesses are underage, police first had to get permission from their parents before speaking with them.

South Fulton teen accidentally shoots mother in neck

FULTON COUNTY, GA. -- (12-20-15)  Police said a mother is in stable condition after being shot in the neck by her son.

Fulton County Police Detective Melissa Parker said that the shooting appears to be accidental.

Parker said that initial reports from the scene are that the teen found the gun in the south Fulton County subdivision.

Police believe the teen believed it was a toy.

In September 2014, his father, Hardy Touray, was shot and killed at a gas station near his home. Touray was described as a community activist. A friend said his goal was to help the community.

"He helped this community. He was part of this community. The people who did this, unacceptable," Syrett Lue said.

"Apathy is the worst crime in our community. We have to change that in our community," said Mason White, an activists who runs the organization Nosey Neighbors Clique.
