No charges in accidental shooting in Nashua

By KIMBERLY HOUGHTON Union Leader Correspondent
NASHUA, NH — (12-14-15) A 27-year-old man was accidentally shot in the torso on Saturday night at a Concord Street residence.

Police say no charges are being filed, and that the man who was shot suffered non-life threatening injuries.

“There was nothing criminal in nature,” police Lt. Craig Allard said Monday.

According to Allard, two men had recently purchased firearms and were attempting to disassemble the guns at the time of the shooting. Inexperience with the firearms was likely the result of one of the weapons accidentally discharging, he said.

One round went off, and the bullet from that man’s gun struck the other individual, said Allard.

The injured man was treated at a hospital for non-life threatening injuries, and he was being held for observation, said police.

Authorities responded to the home on Concord Street shortly before 9 p.m. after receiving a report of an accidental firearm discharge that resulted in an injury. The incident was investigated by the Nashua Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, however no charges are being pursued at this time, said Allard.

Surveillance Images Released In Fridley Target Store Gun Incident

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — (12-14-150  Fridley police have released surveillance images in Sunday’s Target store gun incident hoping it’ll lead to the identification of the suspects.

On Sunday at 5:20 p.m., Fridley police officers responded to the Target, located on 755 53rd Ave. NE, on the report of a shot fired inside the store. Upon arrival, officers were unable to locate the suspect.

An investigation revealed that a man and woman entered the store and were paying for small snack-type items at the cash register prior to the incident. During the checkout process, police say the man began to make adjustments to his left ankle area of his leg. That’s when a shot was fired from his ankle area, striking the floor of the store.

The two suspects then fled the store and left in a red or maroon 2-door vehicle (pictured above). The man appeared to be limping, but there was no blood at the scene to indicate he was struck by the bullet.

There were no bystanders injured in the incident.

Police say the two suspects talked about being on a 12- to 15-hour road trip in their vehicle prior to the accidental shooting.

The man is described as a white man in his late-20s with brown hair wearing a gray/green baseball cap, blue ADIDAS T-shirt covered by a black jacket, dark colored pants and tennis shoes with a white sole.

The woman is described as a white woman in her late-20s, wearing a pink shirt covered by a blue/black hooded sweatshirt with LOVE PINK written on the front. The sweat shirt was covered by a gray sweatshirt. She also wore dark colored jeans and white tennis shoes.

Fridley police continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call Fridley police at 763-572-3629.

Sheriff: 11-year-old was shot by 6th grade classmate in Estill Springs

ESTILL SPRINGS, Tenn. (WKRN) – (12-14-15)  Authorities said Monday a 12-year-old boy is who shot and killed an 11-year-old last Friday in Estill Springs.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office told News 2 victim Sienna Owens and the alleged shooter both went to North Middle School.

Both Sienna and the alleged shooter were in 6th grade. They were friends, as were their families.

Franklin County Sheriff Tim Fuller said the two were at the boy’s home with four other students inside his family’s garage when the shooting happened.

Fuller would not disclose who the gun belonged to, where it was, how the boy got his hands on it, or what kind of weapon it was, but he did say only one shot was fired.

It hit Sienna in the back. She was taken to a nearby hospital and later died.

All of the investigation details will be handed over to District Attorney Mike Taylor to determine if charges will be filed and whether the shooting was accidental, intentional or neglectful.

Authorities are waiting on results of ballistics testing.   If charges are filed, he does not anticipate them until after the first of the year.     Sheriff Fuller said both children come from good families and the 12-year-old boy is not doing well at all.

A pink bow and flowers adorned Sienna’s locker  on Monday, and students are writing letters for her parents.     “Just reading those letters is really very touching and tells a true story of what a beautiful young lady she was,” said Stanley Bean, her principal.     Two counselors are at the school to help the children deal with their grief.

Visitation for Owens will be held at Moore Cortner Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 15 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Moore Cortner Funeral Home, and burial services will be conducted at Franklin Memorial Gardens.

There will be a memorial service at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning at North Middle School for 6th graders who can’t attend the funeral. There will be a balloon release afterward.
