Woman recovering from accidental shooting

Madison, Wi  (9-13-15) Madison police say a woman is expected to recover from what they're calling an accidental shooting Saturday night.
Officers were called to a home in the 4000 block of Lori Circle where a man reported he'd shot the woman while cleaning his gun.
Lt. Timothy Strassman says all the individuals involved have been questioned. No charges have been filed

Accidental shooting takes the life of a Pennsylvania police chief

Bessemer, Pa  (9-13-15)   According to Pennsylvania State Police, Thomas Edward Macri, 56, accidentally shot himself in the chest while cleaning a .40 caliber pistol Sunday at his Shenango Township home.
Macri is a retired New Castle Police Officer — and has been serving as the chief in Bessemer since he retired.
State Police say there is no  sign of foul play.

Police: Accidental shooting leaves Athens teen hospitalized

Athens, Al  (6-28-15) - An accidental shooting in Limestone County has left one teen hospitalized.
Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson says that at 2:30 this morning, they received a call about a shooting victim. 

Police said the 19-year-old victim had been shot in his side and was brought to Athens-Limestone Hospital in a personal vehicle. The victim was then flown to Huntsville Hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Investigators say that after speaking with the victim's friends, they believe the shooting to be accidental.

According to police, the victim and his friends were in the Walmart parking lot talking and looking at a pistol when the gun was fired, striking the victim. 

No one has been charged at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.

Wisconsin man Vaughn Rothering accidentally shoots rommate while teasing cat with laser sight

Onalaska, Wi  (9-13-15)   A man who accidentally shot his roommate while teasing a cat with its laser sight has been fined $50.

Vaughn Rothering, 22, was sat on the porch of hids Onalaska, Wisconsin home with his roommate and teasing a cat with the laser sight of his 9mm pistol, reports the LaCrosse Tribune.

Rothering said he was spinning the gun in his hand went it went off and hit his roommate’s ankle.

‘I feel terrible about it,’ said Rothering, who his lawyer described as ‘thoughtful, polite, respectful.’

Rothering pleaded guilty to negligent handling of a dangerous weapon and was fined $50 on top of court costs of $541.

‘You could easily have killed your friend,’ Judge Ramona Gonzalez told Rothering.

‘You’ve probably punished yourself more than we could ever punish you.’

Autopsy results released in deadly Peoria shooting

PEORIA, Ill. - (9-12-15)  Autopsy results have been released for the 15-year-old Peoria boy, who died Friday night from what appeared to be an accidental shooting.
According to the Peoria County Coroner, DeMarco Irby, Jr. suffered injuries consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

HUNTER REPORTED SHOT, DIES ON GRAND MESA

MESA COUNTY, Colo.  (9-13-15)  The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says one person is dead after a hunting accident Sunday morning on the Grand Mesa.

The individual's name has not been released, but the shooting is believed to be accidental. The man was hunting with his father and friends.

Two witnesses who were hunting in the area said they heard gunshots, followed by screams and cries for help.

The man’s death comes on the first weekend that guns are allowed to be used for big game hunting across Colorado. It is unknown if the man was wearing a safety vest.

In a release Sunday the Sheriff's Office said they received a call through dispatch at around 8:30 a.m. about a hunter being shot near the Big Creek Campground on the Grand Mesa. Deputies responded to the scene along with the Collbran Marshall and Plateau Valley Fire Department.

The Mesa County Coroner was notified and will work to determine the cause and manner of death and identify the person
