Cobb man charged with manslaughter after ‘accidental’ killing


(10-13-15)   A Cobb County teenager has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct after accidentally shooting and killing another man while they were sitting in a vehicle together, police said.

Cobb County police spokeswoman Officer Alicia Chilton said 18-year-old Demarcus Flint was arrested following the shooting just before 1 a.m. Tuesday near the Marietta intersection of Ember Street and Sherlock Drive. Twenty-year-old Smyrna resident Jhavares Doster was killed.

“Investigators were able to determine that [Flint] accidentally shot [Doster] while inside a vehicle,” Chilton said.

Flint is being held at the Cobb County jail without bond.

BUNKER HILL MAN CRITICAL AFTER ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING

(10-13-15)   A Bunker Hill man remains in critical condition after accidentally shooting himself over the weekend while trying to break up a fight between two dogs.

Miami County authorities say 65-year old Jim Jenkins is in critical but stable condition at a Fort Wayne hospital after he was flown there for emergency surgery.  Police say Jenkins accidentally shot himself in the abdomen with a rifle as he tried to stop two dogs from fighting and the gun went off.

 Jenkins is a retired Maconaquah Middle School teacher.

Shooting incident deemed accidental  

NEWPORT  (10-13-15)  A shooting that left an unmarried couple injured was ruled accidental, and no charges were filed, in an incident on Saturday, Oct. 10, the Newport Police Department reported.

Officers were dispatched to a residence on Smith Street, Newport, concerning a female shot by her boyfriend, Sgt. Matthew Elliott reported.
Samuel Styles, 22, met officers at the end of the driveway, and said his girlfriend, Cassandra McGhee, 32, was in the back bedroom along with a handgun on a nightstand.
Officers reportedly found McGhee lying on her side, bleeding from her upper right thigh muscle. A black handgun was on top of a nightstand, as Styles had reported.
McGhee was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center by First Call EMS, and later released, according to the NPD and hospital spokesperson.
Styles was transported to Newport Medical Center by First Call EMS, treated, and released, according to the report.
McGhee said the two of them were lying in bed at the time of the shooting.
She said Styles got the gun to check it and, when he pulled the slide back and when the gun racked slid back forward, the gun fired.
McGhee said she had watched her boyfriend do that several times, so it was not of concern to her.
She said she heard a loud pop and saw a bright flash of light.

Styles told officers that he, too, was shot, in the left thigh muscle. He said he was lying on his back, checking his gun.
He said, when he racked it back, the rack slid back forward, the gun fired, striking him in the left thigh and striking McGhee in her right thigh.
Det. Sgt. Derrick Webb talked to both parties on the scene and in the hospital and ruled it an accident on Styles’ part.
No charges will be fired, the report stated.
The gun was reportedly legally bought by Styles in 2014.
There was a nine-year-old minor child in the residence at the time of the incident. She was unharmed, but turned over to her grandmother, Janie Styles, Rockhill Road, Newport.
The bullet apparently traveled through the left side of Styles, and then through McGhee, a mattress, and box spring. The bullet was located in the bottom of the box spring, and a casing was against a window, Det. Webb reported.

ACCIDENTAL SELF INFLICTED GUN SHOT LEADS TO FLORIDA HUNTER’S DEATH IN MURRAY

(10-13-15) On Monday October 12th at approximately 651 p.m. Shoshone County Deputies and Prichard/ Murray Volunteer Fire and Medical were dispatched to Prichard Creek Road in Murray to a report of a gunshot victim.

The victim, Stephen Davis (60) of Florida, was at his second home in Murray where a group of family and friends were done hunting for the day and were in the process of clearing their weapons. The victim was on the back steps of the residence taking his shoes off when the others heard a shot. They went out to find his revolver on the ground and him, shot in the chest. The victim had been wearing a .44 magnum revolver in a shoulder holster, prior to the shooting.

The others in the group provided first aid on him until emergency services arrived. Northwest Medstar was called to the scene and at 747 p.m. Medstar told the deputy to notify the coroner that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.  Shoshone County Sheriff Mitch Alexander confirmed that alcohol was not related to the accident and he offers his condolences to the family and friends of the victim.

RCMP rule death as accidental shooting

(10-13-15)  The death of a Sundre man found in his home with a gunshot wound to his upper body has been ruled accidental, said police.
Troy Younglove, 41, was deceased when EMS and police arrived at the scene, said Sgt. Jim Lank of the Sundre RCMP detachment.
“That sparked a fairly major investigation.”
The presence of a firearm near Younglove was not indicative of a typical sudden death, and police treat such files as potential worst-case scenarios, he said.
“We don’t rule anything out.”
The investigation led police to the conclusion the death was neither homicide nor suicide. The firearm was loaded and there was an accidental discharge as Younglove was handling the weapon, said the sergeant.
“We ruled it as a self-inflicted, unintentional discharge.”
Younglove had a history of exercising due diligence and caution when handling firearms and was “very safety conscious” — other firearms in the home were found securely stored safely, said Lank.
“It was obvious he was conscious of his firearms.”
The unfortunate circumstance is a somber reminder that a person can never be too safe when handling a firearm. It’s important to always check and make sure the firearm is clear and safe — or in other words that there are no rounds in the chamber, he said.
“That can never be stressed enough.”
A celebration of life for Younglove was held on Friday, Oct. 9 at the Sundre Community Centre.

Police responded to an accidental shooting near Kyle Elementary School Tuesday, city and school officials said.

About 2:30 p.m. officers received reports of a man who shot himself in the leg while he was in his car near Kyle Elementary School, a city spokeswoman said.

There is no threat to the campus and all students and staff were safe, according to Hays Consolidated Independent School District officials.

The man was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge, police said.

13-year-old Antioch girl arrested after accidentally shooting herself in the hand  

(10-13-15)  ANTIOCH (KRON) — Authorities say a 13-year-old Antioch girl has been arrested after she accidentally shot herself in the hand with a gun.

The girl said she found the weapon at school in a restroom last week. The teen told officers she placed the gun in her backpack where she kept it all day.

A report said when she got home, she was going to show the firearm to her grandmother but then accidentally shot herself in the hand. The girl is recovering.

Police took the gun and booked her into a juvenile hall on suspicion of weapons-related charges.

No word yet on the owner of the gun.

Boy, 11, accidentally shot by brother while quail hunting in Tuscaloosa  

(10-13-15)  A 16-year-old accidentally shot his 11-year-old brother while quail hunting in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, according to the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit.

The boy’s injuries are not life-threatening, Captain Gary Hood with the homicide unit said.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office asked homicide investigators to respond to the shooting in the 13000 block of North Rosser Road around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 10.

The incident happened when a 69-year-old man took his grandsons quail hunting on their property and the 16-year-old accidentally shot his younger brother while trying to shoot a quail.

The 11-year-old was hit by birdshot, which injured his face and left hand. He was taken to DCH in Tuscaloosa and expected to be OK.

Mecosta Co. Sheriff's Department Investigates Accidental Shooting


(10-11-15)  Mecosta County deputies investigated an accidental shooting while a man was riding a golf cart in Barryton.

The 57-year-old Grandville man, Terry Apol, was the passenger of the golf cart at 6660 20 Mile Rd. The golf cart was driven with a gun being carried on the back of the golf cart.

While driving the cart through a field, the gun went off. The shot hit Apol in the upper left arm.

He was taken to Spectrum Health with non-life-threatening injuries.

MBPD: Accidental hotel shooting sends woman to hospital

(10-12-15)   MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - An accidental shooting at a Myrtle Beach hotel sent one woman to the hospital Monday morning, according to the Myrtle Beach police.

Officers said the shooting happened early Monday at Hotel Blue. A female suffered a gun shot wound to her leg. Police believe the gun fell and went off on her inside a hotel room.

The woman was taken to the hospital and was alert and believed to be alright

10-year-old boy dies after he's accidentally shot during hunting trip in northern Utah

(10-11-15) SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities say a 10-year-old boy was accidentally shot and killed during a hunting trip in northern Utah.

The Cache County Sheriff's Office says the boy was sitting on the floor of a four-wheeler to stay warm when a hunting companion pulled alongside the vehicle. Deputies say the man got off his four-wheeler and was removing his rifle when it went off, hitting the boy around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities say the boy died the scene, in the far southeast corner of a Forest Service area in Cache County. The sheriff's office says his body was transported back to Cache Valley.

Chief Deputy Matt Bilodeau says there are no charges pending.

He says the boy's name is being withheld until family and friends can be notified.

Gunshot incident was probably an accident

Larchwood, Iowa — (9-25-15) A gunshot incident that injured a rural Larchwood resident earlier this week near Larchwood appears to have been an accident, but authorities have not made a final determination.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that just before 5 PM on Monday, September 21, 2015, they received a 911 call from someone at the home located at 1231 Beech Avenue in rural Larchwood. The caller advised that there was an accidental discharge from his shotgun and he had been shot in the lower part of his leg.

Larchwood Emergency Medical Service, Lyon County Ambulance, sheriff’s deputies and the Iowa State Patrol responded to the call.

At last report, the incident was believed to have been an accident, but deputies say it is still under investigation.

Arizona man held in apparent accidental shooting death

(10-10-15)  Lake Havasu City, Ariz., police cited alcohol as a factor in an apparent accidental shooting resulting in the death of one man and the arrest of his friend Friday.

Lt. Joe Harrold said officers responded just before 9 p.m. to a report of a shooting at a home in the 3200 block of Arapaho Drive.

Harrold said Kristopher Setser, 26, was lying on a bedroom floor with a gunshot wound to his chest. Setser died following transport to Havasu Regional Medical Center.

Setser's friend Eric Huffman was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

"Detectives learned that Huffman was handling a pistol when it fired, resulting in Setser being struck in the chest," Harrold said.

Huffman made an initial court appearance before he was booked into the Mohave County Jail.

Scared woman taken to hospital after accidentally shooting self

TOWN OF BURLINGTON – (10-10-15)  A woman who was scared and attempted to arm herself ended up in the hospital Friday night after she reportedly accidentally shot herself, according to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office.

Friday night the Racine County Communication Center took a 911 call from a woman in the Bohners Lake area of the Town of Burlington who stated that her mother was shot in the stomach.

Upon the arrival of deputies — and through their investigation into the shooting — they learned that the 78-year-old woman was scared, for reasons the release did not note, and attempted to arm herself with her handgun.

She was walking in her house with the gun, when she reportedly dropped it. The gun reportedly hit the floor and fired upward, striking her in the abdomen.

The woman was transported to Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington and then to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa for her injuries. Her condition was not available Saturday.

The initial investigation into this incident shows that alcohol and drugs may have played a contributing factor in the chain of events, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to take this opportunity to remind people to be extra cautious with firearms and to remember gun safety when handling any firearm,” the office stated in a news release

'Mommy, am I gonna die': Mom of 5-year-old Ohio girl accidently shot by cop trying to subdue dog says officer left scene

An Ohio girl who was accidentally shot by a cop trying to subdue a charging dog in June continually cried out “Mommy, am I gonna die?" while medics saved her life, the girl’s mother told Inside Edition.

Ava Ellis, of Whitehall, who is now 5 years old but was 4 at the time of the incident, suffered a gunshot wound that “shattered the bone” in her right leg after a Columbus police officer, who The Columbus Dispatch identified as Jonathan Thomas, pulled the trigger on June 19.

“They had started to cut her pants off her and I just see blood everywhere,” her mom Andrea Ellis said of the aftermath.

Police told Inside Edition they are “grateful to learn that healing is under way,” but Ellis believes the incident was been wrongfully handled by police.

Hunter dead near Colfax in Saturday morning 'incident'

(10-10-15)  One person died at the scene after an early morning hunting incident near Glenwood Road, about four miles east of Colfax, according to Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers.
It is unclear when the incident occurred, but deputies and emergency crews were called at about 7:50 a.m.,  the sheriff said in a news release Saturday afternoon.

"Initial reports indicated that one member of a hunting party had been accidentally shot," Myers said.

"Because of the remote location of the incident, first responders were delayed in their initial attempts to locate the victim," he said. "Whitcom dispatchers who originally took the 911 call, worked with members of the hunting party, via cell phone, to perform CPR on the injured hunter."\
They were unsuccessful.
No information was provided on the gender, age or hometown of the victim or any other members of the party until crews could arrive. Shortly after emergency crews located the hunting party it was determined that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.

The sheriff, the Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Whitman County Coroner are continuing the investigation.

Police: Man mistakes wife for intruder, shoots her to death

SAN ANTONIO - (10-10-15)  San Antonio police were called to the North Side Saturday morning after a man claims he accidentally shot his wife in the chest.

According to police, the man said he was asleep when he heard noises inside his home. He grabbed his shotgun and went into a hallway when he said he heard voices.

Investigators say as the man turned the corner, he fired a single shot at the person he thought was an intruder.

Police said the person was his wife and she died at the scene.

As of 8:30 a.m., officials were processing the scene in the 3500 block of Bent Hollow. Authorities say they are gathering information and interviewing neighbors.

"We have a crime scene investigators and homicide unit here trying to put the puzzle pieces together, and determine exactly what happened,” said Officer Doug Greene with SAPD. “The male has been transported to the homicide unit and he's being interviewed at this time."

We're told one person was taken to Benefis Health System, but we do not know the nature or severity of the person's injuries.

Person accidentally shot in West Palm hotel room, police say

(10-9-15)  A person walked into an emergency room after being accidentally shot in a hotel room, West Palm Beach police said.

The person, who has not been identified, arrived at a local emergency room early Friday with a gunshot wound to the arm.

"Two adults [were] handling a firearm accidentally [one] shot the other in the arm," said police Sgt. David Lefont.

The person first claimed to have been shot at a Texaco gas station. Police later said the accidental shooting happened in a room at the La Quinta at 1910 Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Graniteville man survives after accidentally shooting himself

(10-9-15)  The quick response from Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputies Thursday saved an 80-year-old Graniteville man’s life after he accidentally shot himself.

The man reportedly shot himself with a shotgun inside his Old Graniteville Highway residence, hitting the left underside of his chest after he accidentally bumped the shotgun against a closet door knob, causing the weapon to fire, according to an Aiken County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

The victim was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center, and deputies reported his injuries were not life-threatening, according to the report.

Police: Kan. suspect may have accidentally shot himself

SALINA- (10-9-15)  Law enforcement authorities in Saline County are investigating an accidental shooting.

Police reported they conducted a traffic stop in 6000 Block of South 5th Street just after 5:30p.m. on Thursday.

Police believed Shane D. McMillin, 24, was possibly wanted on a warrant.

When McMillin got out of the car, officers noticed he had a gunshot wound above his left knee.

A resident near the traffic stop thought they had heard a gunshot about the time the traffic stop occurred, according to police.

McMillin was taken to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment and then booked into the Saline County Jail on drug charges and criminal discharge of a firearm.

Officers recovered a handgun and personal use amounts of methamphetamine, marijuana, and mushrooms.

Woman Shot in the Face, Tells Police It Was an Accident

PLAINS TOWNSHIP -- (10-9-15)  Police have arrested a man who admits he shot a woman in the face in Luzerne County, claiming it was an accident. The victim even told police she believes she was shot in the face by accident.

The shooting seems to stem from a night of drinking and playing around with a gun.

Accident or not, the shooter was charged and arraigned Friday.

That shooter is 29-year-old Robert William France. He has been charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor. That includes aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and having a firearm without a permit to carry the gun.

Police say France and a group of friends were out drinking at a bar in Plains Township. After some time at the bar, the group drove to a nearby Turkey Hill to pump gas. The victim told police France was playing with the gun that he owned and next thing she knew she heard a gunshot and was bleeding from her face.

"It has a case on it so I don't even know how it happened," France told Newswatch 16.

"Can you believe that you are here right now?"

"No, I can't because I don't get into these types of problems at all."

Police say France did take the victim to the hospital, but afterwards tried to get rid of the gun.

The gun was registered to France, but he did not have a permit to carry. He is now in the Luzerne County Jail with bail set at $50,000.

"I just hope that she's alright and that everything just works out for the best for her and for me too," France said.

The hospital has not released the victim's condition.

France has a preliminary hearing set for October 20.

(10-9-15)  Colorado Springs police say a 20-year-old man was accidentally shot Thursday night by a friend who was cleaning a gun.

The shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. at a home on the 2600 block of Gunnison Street where the wounded man was found.

Police say the man was taken to a hospital with an injury that was not life threatening.

Authorities say the wounded man's friend left the area before police arrived on scene.

Police: Officer accidentally wounds man while shooting dog

PHOENIX (AP) — (10-8-15)  Phoenix police say an officer accidentally wounded a man while shooting a dog after it attacked the man and the officer.

Sgt. Jonathan Howard says the incident occurred Thursday outside a convenience store after a person entered the store and told the officer that the dog was attacking people outside.

Howard says the officer went outside, saw the dog attack a 53-year-old man and tried to pull it off. The dog bit the officer in the arm.

Howard says the officer fired at the dog and wounded it, but in the process also accidentally wounded the man in the foot. The man and officer were taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

Animal Care and Control spokeswoman Melissa Gable says the dog was euthanized because of its injuries. She says the medium-size mix had a red collar but no identification tags or microchip.

Man Accidentally Killed by Father While Hunting Near Meacham

MEACHAM, WA - (10-8-15)  A man died from an apparent accidental gunshot wound while hunting on Wednesday, October 7,  about 6:24 p.m., according to the Umatilla County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say Louis Neil Branze, 76 of Seaside, shot his son David Joseph Branze 47, of Gresham in a hunting accident near Meacham by the Summit Ranger Station cabin off of Forest Service Road 3113.

Members from the Umatilla and Union County Search and Rescue teams responded and found the body of Branze. "The area of this incident is very rugged and steep so the recovery took several hours to complete", said Sheriff Terry Rowan.

The State Medical Examiner's office was contacted and an autopsy is scheduled later this week.

Man who accidentally shot former kicker for the Gators, sentenced

Ocala, Florida — (10-9-15)  Jefferson Davis Guinn IV, 20, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the shooting death of Daniel J. Krysalka, also 20.
Krysalka graduated from Forest High School as a star kicker for its football team. After graduating, he walked on to Florida University’s football team, where he played for the 2013 season. Teammates from his graduating class said Krysalka was one of the best kickers of all-time.

On March 8, Krysalka and Guinn were in an upstairs bedroom of a home located in the 2100 block of Southeast 15th Lane, Ocala, looking at their weapons — a Kel-Tec .380-caliber and a Kel-Tec 9mm. A third person, Ethan Hayhurst, was also in the room.

While the three were in the bedroom looking at the guns, Hayhurst made the comment that Guinn never cleaned his gun, the Kel-Tec 9mm. Hayhurst and Krysalka then told Guinn to take the gun apart so they could see how dirty it was.

According to reports, after taking it apart Guinn could not reassemble the weapon, so they watched a “how to” video on YouTube and Hayhurst put the gun together. Hasyhurst then handed the gun back to Guinn, at which point it was still unloaded.

Hayhurst said that Guinn was seated in a chair in front of Krysalka, who was seated on the floor.

Once Guinn was handed the gun, he inserted a magazine and racked a round into the chamber. Guinn then pointed it at Krysalka’s face and began making fun of people that had scolded him the night before for pointing an unloaded gun at someone. Hayhurst told the detective that the gun then fired and Krysalka fell backward. The bullet went thought Krysalka’s mouth.

Guinn plead guilty to Manslaughter with a Firearm on Wednesday.

In a statement to Ocala Post, Assistant State Attorney Nicholas Camuccio said, “This was a very difficult and emotional case for everyone that was involved. The Judge listened to the evidence and testimony from both sides before making his decision. That decision had to have been difficult for the Judge due to the very emotional nature of the testimony given on both sides.”

Guinn took full responsibility for the shooting and plead guilty because he did not want to “drag” Krysalka’s family through a long trial.    “In the end, the sentence given by the Judge was fair and appropriate for the circumstances,” Camuccio said

Molokai man killed in accidental shooting identified

(10-7-15)  Police on Molokai are investigating an apparent accidental shooting that left a Maunaloa man dead.

Police identified the victim today as 24-year-old Marianito Alavazo, Jr.

Officers were called to a home on Kulawai Loop in Kaluakoi following a 911 call about a man who had accidentally shot himself with a gun.

Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services crews treated the man at the scene before he was flown to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.

Alavazo was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

He was with two friends, both Molokai residents, when the shooting happened. Police recovered the gun involved in the incident.

No other details were released.

The case is classified as a miscellaneous accident.

Boy, 17, accidentally shot himself in hand

(10-8-15)  A 17-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the hand in central Toledo on Tuesday, authorities said.

Police did not release the name and condition of the victim.

The incident occurred about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of Buckingham Street, according to Toledo police.

MID – MO MARINE DIES AT CAMP PENDLETON

(10-7-15)  A Marine from Vienna was found dead Monday on a shooting range at Camp Pendleton in California. The Marine is identified as 19-year-old Lance Corporal Dominic E. Schraft. He was found with a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators at Camp Pendleton say the shooting is under investigation. Schraft joined the Marines in August of 2014…and served as a field radio operator.

Fort Campbell soldier shot, killed in training accident

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — (10-6-15)   A Fort Campbell soldier was shot and killed during a training exercise on post Tuesday, according to officials.

The soldier died at about 10:20 a.m. CT at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital at Fort Campbell, according to Bob Jenkins, director of public affairs.

The soldier's name will not be released until 24 hours after next of kin is notified.

No other soldiers were injured, and the case is under investigation. The incident happened at one of the post's shooting ranges, Jenkins said

Man Shot, Killed While Hunting Near West Siloam Springs

DELAWARE COUNTY, Okla.  (KFSM) -- (9-28-15)   A Siloam Springs man was shot and killed in an apparent hunting accident on Saturday (Sept. 26) outside West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

Several men were hunting in a wooded area near County Roads 520 and 700 on Saturday afternoon when one of the men accidentally shot Donald Upton, 28, from Siloam Springs, the department said.

"We know who fired the weapon that caused the death of the individual. we certainly knew who that was. but it will be up to the district attorney on depending on whether or not that was an accident or something more sinister,"Jessica Brown with OSBI said.

Boy shot, killed in hunting accident

(10-6-15)    A Visalia teenager died Sunday after he was shot by a member of his hunting party.

The Tulare County Coroner’s Office has listed the death of Luke Burns, 16, of Visalia as accidental.

The shooting occurred at about 7 a.m. while Burns was hunting with family members and friends in the Horse Meadow Area of the Sequoia National Forest near California Hot Springs, according to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were dispatched to the U.S. Forest Service Ranger Station in California Hot Springs at about 7:40 a.m. When they arrived, Burns was being treated by emergency personnel, but succumbed to his wound.

Man apparently shot, killed by 2-year-old son in accident

HOOVER, Ala. -- (8-19-15)  A 2-year-old boy apparently shot and killed his father in what police in Alabama on Wednesday called a horrible accident.

Hoover police Capt. Gregg Rector said investigators had all but ruled out suicide and other possible scenarios in the shooting, but an autopsy was still being conducted on the 31-year-old victim.

The man, whose name was not released immediately, was found shot once in the head in an apartment on Tuesday afternoon, and no one else was inside other than the toddler.

Investigators found no sign of an intruder or a self-inflicted wound, Rector said, and police know there was a semiautomatic pistol in the apartment, located in suburban Birmingham.

"It wouldn't be a physical obstacle for a 2-year-old boy to pull a trigger on a semiautomatic handgun," said Rector.

The woman found the man dead in the apartment when she returned home and called authorities, police said.

Rector said the man's death appeared to be a "horrible accident" resulting from a child getting hold of a handgun.

"Everyone knows it's a good idea not to have guns around kids, but we don't always practice it," he said.

Please excuse my break.  Searching and reading about accidental gun killings is draining.  Kids killing parents, siblings or themselves.  Stupid accidents.  Tragic accidents.  Accidents every week of people killed cleaning guns.  (Doubt it, please read through the incidents posted here on the blog.  No political sites here, no propaganda, only local news reports of shootings.  I give no editorial comments on stories.

I do this for one reason.  To disprove the NRA contention "guns don't kill, people do" which is a lie.  The NRA is interested in profit, damn the lives it costs.  There is an army of parents who used to support guns who've lost a child, and now they see where their concern should have been.   A bit late.



Carson hunter killed in accidental shooting

(10-6-15)  Elko County Sheriff’s deputies identified a Carson City man who was shot and killed during a hunting trip in the O’Neil Basin area.

Stephen James Foley, 48, was accidentally shot in the chest by one of his hunting partners, who was identified as 49-year-old Chad Zenor. Both men lived in Carson City and traveled to the O’Neil Basin area with a group of two to three men, Elko County Undersheriff Clair Morris said Monday.

The shooting occurred at about 3 p.m. Friday at the mouth of Cottonwood Creek Canyon, about 4.4 miles north of Camp Creek.

The hunting party was out on a five mile hike and had returned to the truck, he said. Foley was out hunting cow elk with his son and a friend, authorities said. The group then began putting their backpacks and firearms in the truck.

Zenor was putting a rifle away in the back seat, when he dropped the magazine and neglected to clear the chamber, Morris said. Meanwhile, Foley was standing in the open driver's side door of the pick up truck facing the interior when was shot with a 30-06 caliber Browning X-bold that his friend was plaing in the back seat of the truck, authorities said.

“When he was putting the rifle away, his finger or something caught on the trigger and the gun discharged,” Morris said. “The bullet struck the victim in the chest and he died at the scene.”

Morris said investigators believe the incident was accidental, and Zenor doesn’t face any charges.

Norman couple injured in accidental shooting
Bullet goes through man's hand into woman's abdomen

NORMAN, Okla. —(10-7-15)  A husband and wife were injured in an accidental shooting when the man’s gun went off Tuesday night.

At about 7:45 p.m., a gun the man was holding fired. The bullet went through his hand and into his wife’s abdomen.

Both were taken to the hospital. The woman is expected to recover. The man has been released.

Police confirmed they believe the incident was accidental.

Police: Boy, 11, fatally shoots 12-year-old brother at Ohio property in target-shooting outing

CARROLLTON, Ohio — (10-6-15)  An 11-year-old boy fatally shot his 12-year-old brother during a target-shooting outing in eastern Ohio, the local sheriff said Tuesday.

The shooting occurred while the boys from Moore, South Carolina, were with a man visiting a friend's property in rural Lee Township, roughly 50 miles west of Pittsburgh, Carroll County Sheriff Dale Williams said.

The sheriff said the men had three loaded weapons on a picnic table Friday afternoon and were discussing one when the younger boy picked up one of the guns and it fired. The older boy was struck in the head and died at the scene. No one else was hurt.

Williams said Tuesday that the shooting appears accidental and no criminal charges had been filed, but authorities confiscated all the weapons.

"It's accidental at this time, but we're not done with the investigation," Williams said.

Man transported to hospital following accidental shooting in Blackfoot

Blackfoot, Id — (10-6-15) Bingham County sheriff’s deputies and Blackfoot police responded to an accidental shooting on Tuesday.

Authorities say the incident happened within Blackfoot’s city limits and involved a male who shot himself in the foot, but they didn’t have any additional details to release as of 5:30 p.m.

Blackfoot Fire Department officials say they did transport the male to Bingham Memorial Hospital.

Brookings man hospitalized after accidental gunshot wound

Brookings, SD   (10-6-15)   A Brookings man is in intensive care after accidentally shooting himself in the chest, authorities said.

Lukas Beck, 22, was loading a shotgun in a home in the 3500 block of Medary Avenue North in Brookings at 5:32 p.m. Monday.

The gun discharged accidentally, and Beck was shot in the chest. He was taken to the Brookings Hospital and later flown to Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit.

VIGIL HELD FOR EXETER TEEN KILLED BY A HUNTER IN THE SEQUOIA NATIONAL FOREST

Exeter, Calif    (10-6-15)  A community in mourning, as a teen killed in a hunting accident is remembered. Investigators said a 16-year-old was accidentally shot by a hunter in the Sequoia National Forest on Sunday.

Classmates, friends and family members of Luke Burns, held each other close reflecting on the fallen teen's life.

"He was my best friend. And it really sucks. No one should have to go through this," said Luke's twin brother Levi Burns.

Those closest to the teenager gathered at Exeter High School Agricultural Farm on Tuesday. It's where Luke spent years raising animals and learning skills he planned to use for his future.

"Basically the people at the ag farm were his people," said Luke's best friend Colby Leonard.

The Tulare County Sheriff's Office said Luke was hunting with family and friends early Sunday morning. He was walking in front his group, standing behind brush, when investigators said one of the hunters fired a shot and struck him.

"Just know that it was an accident and we're all trying to get through that," said Luke's sister Dakota Burns.

Family members said Luke took his last breath while cradled in his father's arms.

"He went from his earthly father's arms, to his heavenly father's arms and that's where he's at," said a speaker at his vigil.
